ABOUT ME
Although I'm 100% American, I lived in Monterrey Mexico for a decade. I moved
to Monterrey in 1996 so that I'd be able to spend time with a person whom I hoped would become
my girlfriend--and who is now my wife--and just moved back to the U.S. in March 2006.
Professionally, I'm a self-employed software engineer that generally
works as an independent consultant. Although I was originally
focused on Windows-based development, the last decade has taken me more into embedded software
development--particularly for the Palm OS and especially for the 8051/8052 microcontroller.
Over the years, I've actively developed applications in and involving 8051/8052 assembly language,
'C', VisualBasic, MySQL, SQL Server, PHP, and Unix. Of course I've also developed a number of
websites in a manual fashion (I don't use DrewamWeaver or FrontPage). I spent much of 2005
authoring "The 8051/8052 Microcontroller" book which was
published in September 2005. Please review my resume for more information
about my professional career.

Some of the websites I've created--and the material which I've written--include my most
popular site, 8052.com, which is dedicated to the 8051/8052
microcontroller. The site has been online since 1997 and currently has over 15,000
registered members. Another site I launched more recently is
Barcode Island which, as the same suggests, is
dedicated entirely to bar codes--however, that site was sold in November 2006 to another
party. I was also one of the two primary developers of
PrismEmail which is an effective spam filtering service
capable of detecting and eliminating over 99.5% of all spam.
When I'm not working, I enjoy a number of hobbies.
A relatively new and growing interest of mine is
digital photography. Photography has always
been an interest of mine, but the delay between taking a picture and seeing the developed film
has always been something that deterred me since, as a software developer, I'm used to being
able to see the results of my work immediately and being able to correct it if I don't like it.
Digital cameras have provided me a way to engage in photography but get the instant feedback
I need in order to quickly learn, adapt, and stay interested. Thusfar my primary photography
topics have been landscapes, clouds, and sunsets--but I'm interested in working with figure
models in the future, time and finances permitting.
I've been a private pilot since 1995 and have piloted both Cessna 152's and 172's. Unfortunately,
while I was living in Mexico I didn't do nearly as much flying as I'd like. But in the
future--now that I'm back in the U.S.--I look forward to being able to get
back to this hobby which I enjoyed thoroughly.

I also enjoy street biking and hiking. Street biking in Monterrey was a challenge because there's
not much in the way of established biking trails and the streets of Monterrey tend to be overly
crowded with vehicles; but now that I'm back in Colorado I'm very much enjoying all the bike trails
and paths that the Denver area has to offer.
I also enjoy hiking and camping though, again, I haven't been able to
do as much of this as I'd like. I did, however, have a very interesting 2-week camping trip in the
backcountry of Death Valley in May 2005 with two long-time friends. This was by far the most interesting, varied,
and challenging camping excursions I'd been on, with our elevation varying from 282 feet below sea level up to 8,000 feet above
sea level, and temperatures ranging from 40 degrees to 125 degrees. Since we were in the backcountry and there was no civilization
for hours in any direction, this provided an interesting logistical challenge. We had to make sure we brought
everything in we need, especially water.
I look forward to doing more camping with my wife, though I doubt I'll be able to convince
her to camp in Death Valley with me. :)
