CIMA WT: WORLD DATABASE

WORLD MAP

When first entering the World Map, you will be presented with a world map view, as show to the right. This page allows you to get a worldwide perspective of locations on the map but, functionally, has no purpose other than to select the continent of the world you wish to view.

Continent Pop-up List: You may select the continent by clicking on the pop-up list which is in the upper right-hand corner of the screen (in this case it currently reads "World"). This pop-up list will allow you to select which map view you would like to view: World, N. America, S. America, Europe, Africa, Asia, or Oceania.

Context-sensitive Map: In addition to selecting the continent by picking its name from the pop-up list as described above, you may also simply touch the area of the world map you wish to see. CimaWT will automatically switch to the appropriate continent map.

Once you've chosen a continent in one of the above fashions, you will be shown a continent map, as described in the following section.

CONTINENT MAPS

The continent maps are where most interaction with the World Database will occur within CimaWT. This page shows you a map of the continent with approximate international borders. From this page you may either select individual countries or may switch to another continent map or back to the world map.

In addition to being able to select countries or other map views using the above methods, you will also notice that there are additional icons displayed below the country name. Tapping on these icons will allow you to access additional pages that will show you additional information on the currently selected country.

The function of each icon is as follows:

Info View: This icon will replace the continent map with specific information about the currently-selected country, such as population, capital, national income, etc.

Notes View: This icon will take you to a notes screen where you may enter any information you would like about the currently-selected country.

Travel Advisory View: This icon will allow you to view any travel advisories issued by the U.S. State Department for the currently-selected country. NOTE: This icon will only be visible if you've installed the travel advisory database.

Visa/Entry Requirements View: This icon will allow you to view the visa and/or requirements that this country has for a typical U.S. citizen wishing to enter the selected country.

History/Background View: This icon will allow you to view background/history information about the selected country.

Flag View: This icon will allow you to view the currently selected country's flag.

Map View: This icon will bring you back to the continent map view when you are viewing one of the other pages of country information that can be selected by clicking on the other icons.

COUNTRY INFORMATION

The Country Information page displays general information about the currently-selected country.

Capital: This indicates the country's capital. In the event that government functions are headquartered in more than one city, the most typical or most representative city is indicated.

Country Code: This is the country's telephone country code. This is the code that must be dialed to access that country when placing an international long distance phone call. For example, the country code of Mexico is "52", so to dial a Mexican phone number from the United States you would dial 011-52 and then the Mexican phone number.

Inet: This is the country's 2-letter Internet code.

Currency: This is the country's currency. The first line indicates the 3-letter international currency code (USD=U.S. Dollar); the 3-letter international currency code is normally the 2-letter country code (US=United States) followed by the first letter of the country's currency name (D=Dollar). The second line displays the country's currency fully named.

Area: This indicates the country's geographic area in square miles or square kilometers. You may switch between square miles and square kilometers by tapping the screen on the value itself. The number that is right-justified on the same line (in this case "3") indicates the ranking of the country in terms of area. In this case, the United States is the 3rd largest country in the world in terms of geographic area.

Population: This indicates the country's population. The number that is right-justified on the same line (in this case "3") indicates the ranking of the country in terms of population. In this case, the United States is the 3rd most populated country.

GDP/Capita: This indicates the country's GDP per capita which gives you an approximate idea of what the average person in the country earns (expressed in U.S. Dollars). The number that is right-justified on the same line (in this case "2") indicates the ranking of the country in terms of GDP per capita. In this case, the United States has the 2nd-highest GDP per capita in the world.

U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT TRAVEL ADVISORIES

The Travel Advisories page allows you to view any travel advisories that have been issued by the U.S. State Department for the currently-selected country. You may scroll through the entire text of the advisory by using the scrollbar on the right side of the screen, or by using the hardware scroll buttons.

Some countries may have more than one advisory or announcement. In these cases you will see that the title of the advisory appears as a Pop-up List (as is the case in this example). To view the other advisories, simply click on the Pop-up List and select the advisory you would like to read. If the title of the advisory does not include a Pop-up button that means that the currently-dispalyed advisory is the only advisory for that country.

VISA/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS INFORMATION

The Visa/Entry Requirements page allows you to view any visa or entry requirements that the selected country has for a typical U.S. citizen that wishes to enter that country. You may scroll through the entire text of the requirements by using the scrollbar on the right side of the screen, or by using the hardware scroll buttons.

The Visa/Entry Requirements will only be available to you if you have registered (purchased) CimaWT, and if you have installed the Visa/Entry Requirements database that was included in the program distribution.

HISTORY/BACKROUND INFORMATION

The History/Background page allows you to view general background information and/or a brief history of the selected country. While not a complete history, it will give you a brief overview of the country's origin and current situation. You may scroll through the entire text of the history/background by using the scrollbar on the right side of the screen, or by using the hardware scroll buttons.

The History/background page will only be available to you if you have registered (purchased) CimaWT, and if you have installed Background database that was included in the program distribution.

FLAG VIEW

The Flag page allows you to view the flag for the currently selected country. Note that some minor errors may appear in the image of the flag due to compression and color limitations.

The History/background page will only be available to you if you have installed the Flag database that was included in the program distribution. Once installed, only the U.S. flag may be viewed by unregistered users. All flags will be available once you register the program.

COUNTRY USER NOTES

This page allows you to enter any additional information, comments, or notes you may have about the currently-selected country. CimaWT does not do anything with this information other than present it to you the next time you open the Notes page for the same country.
