CIMA WT: CITY DATABASE

CITY INFORMATION

The City Database information page provides you with general information about the currently-selected city.

Population: This indicates the city's approximate population according to the most-recent information available to the author at the time of writing. When available, the population indicates the total population of the city's metropolitan area which may included suburbs and outlying areas. However, if this information was unavailable the population figure represents only the city itself.

Location: This is the city's location on the globe, expressed as latitude and longitude. The database is precise to the nearest minute so the location information should correctly pinpoint the city within about a mile or two (one minute of latitude or longitude is no more than about 1.2 statute miles). CimaWT can express this location as either degrees and minutes (38'51N, 77'02W) or as degrees and fractions of degrees (38.85N, 77.03W). You may toggle between these two modes of display by simply tapping on the text of the coordinates.

Elevation: This is the city's elevation above (or below) mean sea level. This figure may be expressed in either feet or meters. You may toggle between the two modes of display by tapping on the text of the elevation.

Time: This is the city's current time (assuming your Palm's clock is set correctly and you have set the home city correctly in CimaWT). The right-justified text (in this example UTC-0500) indicates the offset from UTC. If daylight savings time is currently in effect in the city this text will be preceded by an asterisk (*) and the offset displayed will be adjusted for daylight savings time (i.e., when daylights savings time is in affect in Washington, D.C. CimaWT will display *UTC-0400).

DST: This displays whether or not daylight savings time is currently in affect in this city. On the line below CimaWT will tell you when daylight savings time is in affect in that city (i.e. starting what date and ending what date).

Sunrise/Sunset: This will display the time of sunrise and sunset for the city today. You must have MathLib.prc installed for CimaWT to calculate this. Sunrise/sunset should be accurate within about +/- 5 minutes depending on the city's latitude and the time of the year.

Area/City Codes: CimaWT will inform you of the city/area codes that are used in this city.

SELECTING A CITY

When selecting a city, a pop-up window similar to the one pictured here will appear. To select a city, tap on the button that contains the first letter of the city you wish to select. For example, to select Denver you would tap on the "D" button and then select Denver from the list. In some cases you may need to use the scrollbar on the right side of the list to view all the cities available.
