WAYPOINT DETAIL SCREEN
The Waypoint Detail screen provides additional information about the waypoint, as shown in the
image to the right.
The "Date Created" and "Last Visited" fields indicate that date/time the waypoint was created and
visited, respectively. "Satellites" indicates how many satellites were used to obtain the location
of this waypoint--if no value is displayed for satellites it means the location was manually
entered. HDOP, PDOP, and VDOP refer to the accuracy of the measurement.
The "# Samples" indicates how many unique samples were used to calculate the location of this
waypoint, while the "Duration" indicates over what period of time those samples were taken.
Since a GPS unit will constantly report slightly different locations even if the unit is not
moving, Aurora GPS offers the ability to "average" a number of measurements to get a more
accurate reading.
To have Aurora GPS obtain an average, click on the "Average" button and hold the GPS still. The
application will start to record GPS measurements and will average all the measurements together
to determine the most likely current latitude, longitude, and altitude. As Aurora GPS monitors
the GPS, the "# Samples" and "Duration" will increase. When you have obtained what you feel to
be a sufficient number of samples, press the "Stop" button to stop the averaging. You must
press the "Ok" button to set the waypoint to the newly calculated average--pressing "Cancel" will
discard the new measurement.
NOTE: The "Average" function assumes that the GPS unit is NOT MOVING
during the entire time that samples are being recorded. Do not use this function if you are
moving when you take the measurement. If you are moving, use the "Here" button on the
Waypoint Editor Screen instead.
