INTRODUCTION TO ROUTES SCREEN

The Routes screen (pictured to the right) is used to create, edit, and view the routes you have created.

The screen consists of a selection listbox that allows you to scroll through and select routes. The buttons at the bottom of the screen let you manipulate the selected routes depending on the button you press.

ROUTE BUTTONS

The buttons at the bottom of the Route screen have the following functions:

Use: This button will select the current route as the active route. Use this option if you're preparing to start traveling along the selected route. See below in the "Selecting a Route" section for more information.

Delete: This button will delete the currently-selected route.

Edit/New: The edit button will allow you to edit the currently-selected route while the "New" button will allow you to create a new route. Both of these options will take you to the "Route Editor" screen, as follows.

ROUTE EDITOR SCREEN

The Route Editor screen allows the user to create a new route or to edit an existing one.

The "Name" field holds a descriptive name for the route. This may be description, as in this example "San Antonio to Seattle", or may be the name of a hiking trail, or a highway.

The screen consists of two listboxes. The listbox on the left (below the "Route:" heading) is a list of waypoints that have already been added to the route--this listbox will be blank when you first create a new route. The listbox on the right is a list of all the available waypoints that you may add to your route.

When you click on a waypoint in either list, the name of that waypoint will be displayed in the area below the two listboxes--this is because the full names of waypoints may not fit in the listboxes, so when you click a waypoint you can verify that you're selecting the right one by looking at the full name displayed below the listboxes.

BUILDING A ROUTE

To build your route, scroll through the waypoints listed in the right listbox and find the first waypoint for your route. When you have found it, tap the waypoint in the right listbox and then tap the "Left Arrow" button (between the two listboxes) which will move the waypoint to the end of your current route. Continue this process for each waypoint in the order that you wish them to appear in the route.

To remove a waypoint from your route, tap the waypoint in the left listbox and press the "Right Arrow" button which will remove it from your route.

The order in which the waypoints appear in your route will itself define the order in which you will visit waypoints when following this route. If you need to move a waypoint to a different position within your route, use the "Up" button to move the waypoint further up and the "Down" button to move the waypoint further down the route.

In the example route in the image above, we see that the route starts at the San Antonio waypoint, the next waypoint is Dallas, then Oklahoma City, and so on. This is the order that the waypoints will be visited as you travel north from San Antonio.

NOTE: Any route can be traveled forwards or backwards and it doesn't matter how you create the route. For example, if a route takes you from A to B to C to D to E, you may end up following that route from A to E or from E to A. When you create your route you can either enter the waypoints in the order A,B,C,D,E or in the order of E,D,C,B,A. It doesn't matter which since when you select a route the application will ask you in which direction you are traveling.

SELECTING A ROUTE

Once you've constructed a route and you're ready to use Aurora GPS to travel along that route, you must select the route to make it active. To do this go the Routes screen, select the route, and press the "Use" button. This will bring up the following screen:

Every route has a beginning and an end, but sometimes you will be traveling in the reverse direction. In this example, we have a route which defines a list of waypoints that takes us from San Antonio to Seattle. But when we select this route we may either be traveling from San Antonio to Seattle or from Seattle to San Antonio. This screen allows the application to determine in which direction you intend to travel. Thus if you are driving towards San Antonio you would tap the top "Select >>" button while if you were traveling to Seattle you would tap the bottom "Select >>" button.

If you decide you don't want to use this route after all, press the "Don't Use This Route" button.

Once you've selected a route and indicated in which direction you are traevling, Aurora GPS will automatically switch back to the Navigation screen and the route will be displayed in the bottom section of the screen. As you travel along the route Aurora GPS will automatically update the waypoints to indicate how much further you have until each waypoint and how long before you arrive, along with an ETA. As you pass a waypoint along the route, that waypoint will be dropped from the screen and the next waypoint along the route will be displayed.
