How should I get started using Aurora GPS?
Sometimes the hardest thing about a new application is getting used to and understanding
the general flow of how it works. We've tried to make Aurora GPS as simple as possible, but
the following is the general order of how you'll want to get started:
- Create Waypoints. Create the waypoints that you'd like to have in your waypoint
database. You need to have waypoints so that something appears on your map. You also need
waypoints if you're going to use routes. But the first step is creating waypoints.
- Create Routes. If you plan on using routes, create your route(s) after you've
created your waypoints. Once you have waypoints you can quickly create routes by simply
indicating the sequence of waypoints that make up that route. Routes are optional.
If you just want to use Aurora GPS to see your position on the map in relation to other
waypoints you do NOT need establish routes.
- Use It!. Once you've created your waypoints and/or routes, you're ready to use
Aurora GPS in the field. You will be able to see your position on the map in relation to
the waypoints you've created, and you can use the routes as you travel along it to always
have an idea of how far until the next waypoint along your route or to get an idea of what
time you'll be getting to your destination in the evening.
How can I select English or Metric mode?
You may select the units you wish to use in the Configuration Screen.
The configuration screen lets you independently select units for altitude, speed, and distance
which means you can choose to have distances displayed in miles while speeds are displayed in
kilometers. This might not seem useful, but it's useful to those of us who "think in miles"
but are traveling in a country that uses the metric system and posts speed limits in KPH.
